Clinching the title
1962 - We secured the Second Division title. A brace from winger Kevin Lewis gave us a 2-0 home win over Southampton, in what was Bill Shankly's hundredth League game in charge. We had been outside the top flight for eight seasons.
1906 - We were presented with the League title at Anfield after becoming the first team to win the Second and First Division in consecutive seasons. Jack Parkinson struck twice in a 3-1 defeat of Sheffield United with Robbie Robinson also on target, while James Gorman made his reds bow.
Young champions
2006 - We won the FA Youth Cup for the second time in our history, losing the second leg 2-0 to Manchester City at the City of Manchester Stadium, but triumphing 3-2 on aggregate.
Eph's final outing
1928 - Legendary right-back Ephraim Longworth played his 371st and final reds game as we lost 2-0 at Birmingham City. This came more than seventeen and a half years after his debut!
Most recently
2003 - Two late, late goals snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat at home to Charlton Athletic. Shaun Bartlett had put the Addicks ahead after Djimi Traoré's slip. However, Sami Hyypiä and Steven Gerrard scored inside the last five minutes to keep us on course for the Champions League, although we fell at the final hurdle.
2007 - Pepe Reina made his hundredth reds appearance with John Arne Riise playing his 300th game as we beat Wigan Athletic 2-0 at Anfield. Dirk Kuyt struck both our goals.
A treble for Clem
1976 - Keeper Ray Clemence bagged a hat-trick that included two penalties as we lost 6-5 in a testimonial for Ray Mathias played at Tranmere Rovers. David Fairclough and Ray Kennedy also struck.
A derby treble
1916 - Fred Pagnam scored a hat-trick, with two coming from the spot, as we beat Everton 5-2 in a Wartime League match at Anfield, with William Banks and Dave Watson also on target.
1917 - We were trounced 5-0 at Anfield in another wartime meeting.
Other derby days
2000 - We were held to a goalless draw at Goodison.
1948 - We secured a much better result when we beat the Blues 4-0 at Anfield, with outside-left Ken Brierley bagging the first of his eight reds goals and Albert Stubbins, Billy Liddell and Jack Balmer also netting.
Four goals again
1990 - We have netted four goals in a League game on this day more recently than the derby thrashing. We beat Chelsea 4-1 at Anfield, with goals from Ronnie Rosenthal, Ian Rush and a Steve Nicol brace.
1951 - We also played Chelsea, losing 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Disappointment against the Geordies
We have twice faced Newcastle United in the First Division on this day in history, without winning.
1930 - We were held to a goalless draw at Anfield with Charlie Thompson making the first of just six reds appearances.
1973 - We lost 2-1 at St. James' Park, when Kevin Keegan bagged our consolation.
A treble for Dioufy
2001 - El-Hadji Diouf bagged all the goals as Senegal beat Algeria 3-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Dakar.
Crazy Horse twice for England
1970 - Emlyn Hughes won his fifth full international cap as England beat Northern Ireland 3-1 at Wembley in the British International Championships, in what was Bobby Charlton's hundredth international.
1971 - Crazy Horse won his ninth cap, as they beat Greece 3-0 in a European Championships qualifier at the same venue.
Young red on target
2004 - Young red Conal Platt scored for the Republic of Ireland Under-18's as they beat Turkey 2-1 in a tournament game in Portugal.
